Broadcast Without Being Spammy — Practical Rules

Broadcast Without Being Spammy — Practical Rules

A good broadcast feels personal and timely. A spammy one repeats a generic offer with no recent permission or value — raising blocks, opt-outs, and template costs. See WhatsApp pricing and the Broadcast UI guide.

Write the segment rule first

One written rule the team can apply without debate (e.g. engaged in last 7 days, or label Interested excluding Do not message). “Everyone” is noise. Messenger: build labels in Subscriber broadcast.

Before send

  • Clear reason tied to recent behavior.
  • Approved WhatsApp template / correct Message Tag when required.
  • Value in the first line; one next step only.
  • Internal sample of 10–20 recipients first.

UI path without the spam pattern

WhatsApp: approved template → Send Campaign → Campaign Dashboard. Messenger: Subscriber broadcast with labels + Message Tag. For staged drips use Sequence campaigns — not endless one-off blasts.

After send

  • Watch delivery/failures immediately.
  • Staff the inbox for hour one.
  • Stop repeats if blocks/unsubscribes spike.
  • After seven days: delivery, opt-outs, attributed orders vs template cost.

Fatal mistakes

  • Daily identical blasts to everyone.
  • Cold promo outside the window without template/tag.
  • Ignoring complaints and resending immediately.
  • Leaving a seasonal sequence running after the offer ends.

3-day plan

  1. Day 1: segment rule + template/tag ready.
  2. Day 2: internal sample → adjust copy.
  3. Day 3: measured expand or stop; document the lesson.
